In 2002 I was asked by the People & Planet group at Edinburgh University to help with their campaign to challenge the investment policy of the university endowment funds. I'm glad to say that they had some success with this policy and now have an improved policy on management of these funds and a base from which to increase the ethical mandate applied to the university investments.

I was therefore delighted to be asked again to help at the recent launch of their current campaign, which is to challenge the investment policy of the City of Edinburgh Council and in particular the investment policy of the Lothian Pension Fund. The main focus of this activity is a campaign to get the council to ban investments in arms companies and with specific attention to the holdings in British Aerospace (BAe Systems).
